Where should the Defibrillation Electrodes pad be placed?

Defibrillation Electrodes pad is to shock the heart with an electric current, and the rescue method to terminate ventricular fibrillation, usually there are two kinds of electric shock defibrillation electrode plate placement position.

The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Precordial placement: One electrode plate is placed in the second intercostal space at the right margin of the sternum, that is, above the nipple at the right margin of the sternum, and the second electrode plate is placed in the fifth intercostal space, that is, below the nipple, near the midaxillary line, so that the current can completely pass through the whole heart, thus playing a defibrillation role;

2. Anterior and posterior placement of the heart: one electrode plate is placed in the second intercostal space, that is, above the nipple of the right margin of the sternum, and the other electrode plate is placed on the left shoulder blade, and the anterior and posterior current passes through the heart, which can play a defibrillation role.

Electric shock defibrillation is an effective method to terminate ventricular fibrillation. Statistics show that the survival rate of patients with out-of-hospital respiratory and cardiac arrest, if not rescued in time, is 2%-3%; if only external chest compression is performed, it can be increased to about 5%; if external chest compression is combined with powerful and timely electric shock defibrillation, the survival rate of patients can be increased to 20% or even higher.

The energy choice of electric shock defibrillation is generally one-way wave 360J and two-way wave 200J, which shocks the heart with an electric current to terminate the occurrence of ventricular fibrillation. Ventricular fibrillation is the main cause of death of cardiac arrest, so defibrillation by electric shock can effectively save the lives of patients with cardiac arrest.
